The changes…challenges of life
Fall colors are just one way we are reminded that throughout all the changes in life, we can stay grounded in who we are. That as life presents us challenges, our “river” will weather any storm we face!
All too often this world tells us we must change or face being left behind. Now of course, change can be good. Change can be healthy. It can make us more productive in both our personal and professional lives. But at what cost? I know this all too well. I found myself getting so caught up in the boom of smart phones and social media that I lost who I was. Instead of using these tools as a way to supplement and balance my life, it consumed me. Instead of picking up the phone to call and check in with a friend or family member, I took the short-cut and sent a text message. I avoided sitting down and having a cup of coffee with a friend since I figured I knew everything going on in his life by what he/she posted on social media. Folks, I am telling ya… I lost myself in this mess so much that I forgot who I was. How about you?
A Solid Foundation
Although we all have, and will continue to experience changes and challenges in our life time, we need to understand one basic principle. That without change..without challenges and obstacles…we simply cannot grow. It’s these experiences that teach us lessons and build a strong solid core that will weather the storm.
Each fall a tree goes through the process of preparing itself for the winter storm. It is common knowledge that trees become bare during winter, but not many people actually know how they keep themselves alive during the bitter cold. The animals you see during the winter keep moving and eat more food than usual to survive winter, and the ones you don’t see are hibernating. Trees go through a process similar to hibernation called dormancy, and that is what keeps them alive during the winter.
Now, I am not suggesting that we all go dormant during the storms of live; in fact, I am suggesting the opposite. But those storms or changes that we are constantly experiencing can to havoc on us if we are not prepared. Just as a tree prepares for the winter, we must prepare our core foundation for the next obstacle. It’s your character, your core, your foundation that is at stake if you don’t prepare.
“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” – Helen Keller

It’s God’s divine power were we find our strength. It is in the grace and mercy that we can be thankful for the seasons of change in our lives. And it serves as a reminder that the challenges we will face tomorrow are only shaping us into the man or woman that we are predestined to become.
In this world, we will inevitably face change but I can rest peacefully holding strong to my favorite scripture: “Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever” – Hebrews 13:8
